What tire options do I have for the Shinn wheels? I would like to go with something larger in dia than the 600-6's. Does this require a field approval? I would appreciate all comments, pro's, cons.........Thanx.

Yeah, anything bigger technically requires a 337. Talk with your IA and FAA regional FAA inspector. There is a copy of a 337 for 8.50's out there. I even ran 26" bush wheels for a while, but I highly doubt most Tcraft owners would want anything that large unless you plan on landing on 4-5" rocks or really soft sand all the time.

      Re: Tires

I believe the type certificate specifies 600-6's in 4 ply only, so technically 6 ply tires would be illegal....and most of you are almost certainly flying on 6 ply tires.
There is a guy who looks like me, who has a Tcraft that looks like mine who runs bigger tires on his and it passes annual no problem.....maybe because his IA has the same on his Tcraft.
My only concern would be insurance. My experience with insurance companies is they will try to weasel out of paying a claim based on any relevant or irrelevant technicality.

What is really messed up are the mechanics & pilot/operators who end up with 6 plys on their 210's and Barons and don't know any better.

"Hey can you read the ply rating on your tire over there?"
          "Six, what should it be?"
"Eight would be nice, this'd better be a good landing."
