  • More Landing Gear: Repair at the Factory!

I spoke with Harry Ingram this afternoon about my problem with my tie struts. He was very nice and told me that he would either sell me new struts or I could ship both landing gear to the factory and he would put them in the original jig and install the new ones. He will also fill out the 337 paperwork and send them back to me. These have to be welded at the top and bolted in at the bottom. He quoted me $150 for each side. Sounds good to me. Now my only problem is how to prop up the airplane while the gear is away!

That is a fantastic price. I hope you can get a quick turn around. I have a few ideas on how to hold the plane up, but they are hard to expalin. Any chance you could hang it from the rafters?

      Hi Tom,

Sounds almost too cheap but I hope it works out. The tubing is probably $35 per side. One has to remove the old lower fitting and put it on the new tube and install the tube assy (ie. tube & lower fitting) OR install the entire assy as a new part so you pay for a new fitting and bushing and tube. His prices for tube are lower than what I have to pay so that's a factor too.

Jason: we are going to hang it from the rafters. We're going to remove the wings on friday, the engine has to come out as well for the exhaust replacement. Its easier to fit the airplane in my friends hangar without the wings as space is real tight. We figure we can get them off relatively quickly, he's done it many times in the past and we have no fuel tanks to contend with.

I never thought this annual would turn into a "D" check!!

          Hi Tom,
Just a word of caution about Harry and what he says. I gave him a deposit for a new Sport and have been trying to get my $6k back for nearly 18 months now. One lie after another and still he can't come up with the money. Be carefull as your bird may be hanging from the rafters for a "long time".

Didn't I see a report that there was another guy doing the parts and such and had actually done good stuff for someone. Wonder if he's gone now. I was kinda hopeing that things would change. Time will tell.
