    Re: 10,000 & Climbing

Maybe when I get my mixture control working I'll borrow some oxygen equipment, dump out everything possible, and see what 801 will do. I've never seen the top of a 747 . Just kidding guys, I'll stay way away from the big boys.

      Re: 10,000 & Climbing

I felt like I was at 10,000 ft this weekend with my T-Craft on Floats.....94 degrees temperature with nearly 90% relative humidity two 200lb guys 12 gals of gas. It took a pretty long takeoff run to get her off the water and it was very lazy on climbout....I was surprised it flew at all....the little C85 was the little engine that could.....I heard "I think I can, I think I can"....It was a combination boat ride airplane ride. It felt like the windows were going to fog up it was so muggy.

        Re: 10,000 & Climbing/strato cummulis etc.

"Pops" told me a tail of an over water leg he flew in an FM-2 wildcat while in training in Florida During wartime. Said he went into a T-cloud and felt like he was in a washing machine.Returned to NAS Deland Fla. with "lots" of rivets missing @ the tail cone and the wire between the radio mast and the tail broken.Reported the bird slightly out of rig,and said had it not been a Grumman aircraft, that either one of us would be sharing the story.

I did a dance in a thunderstrom many years ago. I wrote the story for a magazine. It's reprinted on the "Stories
and Photos" page inside the "Taylorcraft Foundation" header.

It one my least favorite moments and one of my favorite stories. Read it and you'll see why -.
