I sent one off and it came back with new bushings and the idler gear jammed up against the oil pump pocket-- just a few thousandths off, of course. Either the case is ruined or it will have to have to be remachined and a new bushing installed in the right place.
Also a poster here e-mailed me & was going to sell me a rear case, but pulled my leg a little and aroused suspicion. I googled him and found this:
Anyhoo. Our EAA chapter is rebuilding the A-65-8 on a member's Fly Baby. He has a congenital skin defect-- no sweat glands and some other health problems but loves to fly and has his medical. So we all like the guy-- he sings and plays the guitar too -- and have volunteered to replace his O-145 (which is anemic and not too healthy) with an A-65, which I'm rebuilding.
So if you can help us out here, I'd appreciate it and pay fair market value for a good rear accessory case in new or serviceable limits.
Thanks in advance.
And, btw, I understand ECI does machine work on rear cases. Capt. Woody sent me one but I measured the bushings and they were too sloppy --- .004". Should have been .002" loose, and with a new oil pump too. So sent it back, but he said ECI had rebuilt it. It had a repair tag -- white -- but no yellow tag.
I'm starting to get antsy about this guy's engine. How 'bout it, guys? Forrest? Captain Jon, do you have one you'd sell? The kidney tank you sold me is going on his engine.
