I pulled the cable out of the cable shroud, and added dubious amounts of graphite lube inside the shroud, then re-inserted the cable. Also, with that large 3 in 1 instrument, make sure you use some grease inside of the right angle elbow attaching to it. Just the slightest amount of "squeak" out of that elbow is really amplified by that large hollow metal sounding board of a tach! I messed around for quite a while trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. I knew it was in the cable assembly or tach, because of the change at power settings. I finally resolved the issue after I got that elbow in shape.
I have a box of big tach stuff, remains from the tornado that destoyed my hangar in "99. I haven't looked in the box for a while, but as I recall, there were parts for two or three and there was a possibility of making one out of the mess, (with a lot of work). They work great and look great on the panel. Be sure to use round control wheels, too.
I will be glad to send the whole lot, no charge, for inspection. If you think, after you see it, it is worth anything, just send me a nice birthday card.

That one on eBay looks like it would fit in the panel, and may be re-buildable. but just be aware that it's not a counter-rotating tach like the Tcraft used. It might be an option, I just wanted to point that out. I suppose you could get a reversing adapter to use it.
That's an interesting picture. I wonder if that's the standard setup on a Studebaker, Chris Craft, or ??? It also has an ammeter on the top which I haven't seen before. I guess it's a 4 in 1.....

Thanks for your advice on how to lube the tach drive assy
after the airplane has been sitting for four years. I'm going to
drain the old oil, replace it with new oil, fire the heater on the pre-oiler up, pre-oil the engine, and fire her up. All this after greasing the tach drive cable, paying special attention to the elbow.
I will load up the photos of the heater/pre-oiler as soon as I get the film developed. Sabrina
A very good lube for tach drive cables in general is Mobile 22. It will not stiffen in cold temps and it has a very"thin" light density.
Lubriplate also works well.
Looking forward to those pics of the preoiler. I am almost ready to get Traci's newly rebuilt A65 back running again. I definitely want to preoil the system though before we crank her up!
