Need Info on Big Pre-War Tach(3 in 1)

Hey Tribe,
A friend of mine by the name of Charlie McKorkle is restoring a 1940 BL-65 T-craft and he is not online.He is wanting to get all the information he can on the big pre-war 3 in 1 tach such as size,dementions,brand,etc,etc.
He also wants to know if they were used in anything other than T-crafts and if so,what else were they used in(airplanes,cars,trucks,tanks,whatever....ya get the point)?
Charlie is a great old fella who has been doing some really great work on his beloved T-craft project that was almost unrestorable when he started on it.He is now down to finding the little pieces to finish putting it back together with.So any info on this 3 in 1 tach would be great.

Don't have one for sale, but I do have a spare pre-war panel and instrument mounting back plate at home. I plan to use it to replace the original panel still in the plane one day when I get tired of looking at dents and patches.

I'll get it out this weekend and get some dimensions and pics to post for you if that will help.

Here's a picture of the stewart warner tach in my '39 BL 20442. This is my first attempt at sending a picture so forgive me if it doesn't work. Got another SW to overhaul and put in the Barn Queen a '39BL/C 23858 I can get some dimensions also if you need them. Howard

Big Tach

Howard, that is a great shot of a really nice tach. The one that
I have on my 1940 BC65 has a white face but that is the only difference that I can tell. I need to know where I can get the oil pressure gauge in it fixed. Mine works, bot something inside of it slipped so you have to guess by the location of the needle
what the pressure is exactly. Oh, did you get that out of a boat?

I've never seen a white faced SW 3 in 1, cool.... I'm going to send the tach I bought for 23858 up to Keystone Instruments in PA. As I said in another post; I'm happy with what they did on 20442's bubble faced compass. You might hear some other opinions on that when people read this, it was a thread for awhile last year. The tach was in the plane when I bought it last April and I haven't seen anything in the logs about it being changed out. (not that that means alot). I seem to remember a thread from a while back when there was a discussion about how you could tell what kind of a vehicle the tach came from originally by the shape of the doohickey on the non-pointy end of the needle. Mine both have a small round disc at the end, I've seen pictures of a needle with a crescent moon shape??? Howard

Hope these pics help a little. I didn't have much time, so I apologize if it's a bit crude, or if there's important data missing. Send me a message if you need more data for hole sizes and locations etc.. If anyone needs to borrow these for a pattern, I'm sure we could make that happen too. Let me know....

A couple more of the instrument after Keystone completed the rebuild. Talk to Ken. Nice people, but plan on being with out the instrument for a few months. I think mine was at their shop for about four months, but it was suppose to only take a couple of weeks. It was worth it.

Large Tach

Thanks Mike, I wondered what the back of my tach looked like,
and now I know how it bolts to the panel, and what the elbow
that was mentioned in a thread about drive cable breakage
looks like. Which brings up a question. Seeing as my "child" was
in strorge for the last four years, should I lube the tach drive
cable as well as pre-oiling the engine? If so, with what? I'm
going to fire up the engine some time this week. By the way,
one of the pilots here built a pre-oiler that has adjustable
pressure, and heats the oil before sending it to the engine. It's
mounted on an old portable bar-b-que grill frame, and if anyone
would like photos of it, ask me, and I'll take some and post them
