  • Glob around the firewall

In quite a few Tcrafts I've had the pleasure to examine, any cable that penetrates the firewall is treated to a glob of some kind of sealant that has the consistency of putty.

Is that the approved way of passing cables thru the f/w?

What is that stuff? - Mike

        Mike,
Glob-O-plumber's putty.... non-hardening. There should be a rubber grommet on each firewall hole to protect cables, wire, primer lines etc. Adding "glob-O-putty" helps protect these items from vibration/rubbing damage and seals the cabin from any carbon monoxide/other fumes.

Knead some silver powder/paste into the putty if you have a need for that stylish under cowl look!

Used to be zinc crhomate tape was available untill the EPA steped in. Could get it in a 1" wide by 1/16" thick. Simalar to butul rubber strip caulk. Peel off an inch or two, roll it into a little ball and smush into place around the cable. We used to use it at Kenmore Air Harbor when replacing float bottoms and run it all the way down the keel between skins to help seal everything up and prevent corrosion. I forget what the new EPA friendly version is but its not the same as the good old Chromate tape was.
