  • Once you've cut off the fabric .....

... there remains around the tubing a collection of remaining fabric, some underlying tape, paint and who-knows-what. This stuff needs to come off prior to sandblasting. To those who have removed fabric, how have you removed this 'stuff'?

I imagine MEK would do it; but I was wondering if a light application of a propane torch would also do the trick. I'll try both but was wondering what your experinece has been. - Mike

    Mike,
My favorite method is to use emery cloth and use it back and forth across the tubing like a shoe-shine rag.
I'm sure there will be some other good replies here...

Let it soak it in Acetone for a while unless it's glued with Cecobond; in that case, Rots a Ruck.

Cecobond will come loose with 3M adhesive remover.

That's a great tip!! AFS told me to use a gum eraser.
          Thanks, Ed

Yeah, the eraser works great too...but it will soften and release with the adhesive remover. Just don't use that method anywhere near fabric or glued seams.
