Re: Polyfiber wet-look versus satin finish?

    Bob,
My guess is that Poly Fiber has done a better job of marketing.

I'm just finishing up my 12th recover over the last 35 years, all Ceconite and dope. I had promised my self during #10 that it would be the last one!
I guess I'm an old fool, but I love the original look, feel, and smell of dope on an antique airplane.

My planes have the "wet look" once a year when I get out the soap bucket and hose.

    Dick,
We all have a threshold, my is the smell of Stits..... If someone simply cracks open a can of Stits, I'm headed for the next county up wind!

When I did one in polyfiber my wife met me at the door with a change of clothes and said that I had to leave the ones I had on outside until I could put them in the washer . She has never complained about nitrate and butyrate. Dick

Dope and fabric have been used for over a hundred years. The thing about dope fabric, boy does it burn. Poly-fiber products don't support combustion. another thing with a dope system, it keeps srinking for years and can bend ribs over time. I don't have experience with dope but a Poly Fiber rep demonstrated the burn thing and also said the stuff keeps srinking. I've covered three planes with Poly Fiber using both Aero-Thane and Poly-Tone paint with good results. Now I'm about ready to do another.

All of the above, and more... like fire, and even non-taughtening dope never quits shrinking... I've seen alot of airframes damaged by dope.... and let's not forget about longevity... PolyFiber will outlive the dope finish.
