  • Intro From A New Guy

    Hi folks,

Just a quick intro as the newest member. I am from Lake Mills (South Central WI). I am in the process of buying a 1938 BF-50. The Franklin is long gone (now an A-65). I have really enjoyed the T-Craft forum and look forward to meeting a lot of you. I recently bought a copy of Chet's book and am feeling pretty smug with my decision of purchasing a vintage Taylorcraft. The more I read the more I like. The plane is currently flying but getting tired. I hope to do a full restoration in the next few years as time allows. One of the few non-original items on this plane are the control wheels. I would really like to find a set of the original full rounds wheels. Any out there?

    Thanx. Mike Cushway

I'm rebuilding a Clip wing T-craft that I'm hopeing to have flying later this year. Do you attend the Broadhead Fly in? I would like to get togeter with some of the fellow T-crafters in this area. I live in Clinton IA right on the river just north of the Quad Cities. Starting May 19 the local Aeroclub has a cook out ervery friday and anybody is welcome to fly in. We also have some of the cheapest gas in the area $3.15 of the self serve for now.

I belive it is the weekend after labor day. You have to be a member before July 1 before you can attend, I think. I know it is MAAC (Midwest Antique Airplane Club) mebers only.

Brodhead - MAAC fly-in September 8-10th this year. I'll be there with the '39. As Mike says, join early. Before the Blakesburg, IA Antique Aircraft Association (AAA) fly-in around Memorial day. Hope to be there also...

Brodhead (Grassroots Fly-In) is one of avaitions best kept secrets. It is a PRIVATE fly-in and only open to MAAC members. By all means join MAAC. I have attended Grassroots for nearly 10 years. Brodhead is also the heart of the Pietenpol community. I sold my Sky Scout to a guy in Brodhead. It is now flying and a beautiful sight. There is NO commercialization at Brodhead with the exception of an occasional aircraft sporting a for sale sign. Camping on site for the weekend and some of the best Chili on the continent! Richard,

"My" plane is SN#1095....does this make it a Taylor-Young? I have searched the book but see no data indicating distinct dates of the reorganization after the Taylor-Young era. It still holds it's original registration# N20407. At restoration I will re-number to include the "NC". Thanx

                      Eric,

Brain fart on calling you Richard....sorry!

I can't tell if it's the original plate or not. It is mounted facing forward below the RH seat. I was reading it without the aid of a flashlight in a poorly lit hanger. I can see the SN# but not any date of mfg. I hope it is the original data plate, that would mean a lot to me. How hard will it be for me to come up with the original control wheels?

Round control wheels & the large tachs are getting scarce. I have an extra large tach, but no control wheels.
