I have a question regarding spar dimentions. The old spars are about 1/8 narrower than the stock I got from Spruce. I can rip them down although the ribs seem to fit ok. Also these spars have been shaved down at the root end to allow for the plywood to not exceed the 3/4 or 5/8. How thick are the thicker fittings?

Do your spar fittings fit OK as well? Measure the total width of what your spar will be with plywood doublers, and see whether your metal attach fittings will work. If it will fit, the extra spar width is just another little insurance policy.

You should definitely drill for the 11/16" micarta bushings in the spar root, so you can put in the gross weight and power upgrade later if you wish. It is far easier to do it now. You should also consider using the thicker metal fittings at this stage, again so you can "install" the larger engine.gross weight STC later. I am guessing that the thicker fittings are available from the factory.

        Re: Spars

I APPARENTLY ORDERED THE BACK AT 3/4 SO i'LL HAVE TO REDUCE TO 5/8 THICKNESS. wHAT i WAS REFERRING TO IN THE ORIGINAL POST WAS THE WIDTH AS OPPOSED TO THE THICKNESS. i AM LOOKING INTO THE FITTING UPGRADE ANY COMMENTS ON THE STC# OR WHERE I CAN GET IT. Also these spars were shaved down at the root end to allow for the plywood and still fall within the 3/4 or 5/8 dimention. How thick are the thicker fittings?
