  • "OK to cover"???

It's my understanding prior to covering an a/c, an IA must inspect the innards and give his approval to cover. Correct?

What does this mean if I'm doing things piecemeal i.e. elevators, then stabilizers, then alerion then who know what? Does he need to check out each before I recover?

How does he know what he inspected is the part that's going on the a/c? I think the fuselage has a SN, but the various other parts??? - Mike

The most efficient way (assuming you need the IA to sign off each part, which I don't know) would be for you to have an agreement with your IA that you photograph each part very thoroughly and make any other notes, so that he can see from the photos that each part was cleaned and repaired properly. That is the "boy scout" way.

It would be more convenient if you found an IA who is familiar with Taylorcrafts, explain that you take advantage of the resource represented by this forum, that you have advice from several competent (and dozens of incompetent ) people, and have that IA give you direct instructions on how to repair the various GROUPS of components. The IA should see an example of your work, and then say that you can go ahead and do "the rest of the tail surfaces the same way" or whatever.

That being said, there are LOTS of Taylorcrafts where the owner presented the covered and painted parts to the IA, gave the IA a list of xactly what he did, and asked the IA to look at the parts before you went ahead with the re-assembly.

It all basically boils down to what kind of an IA you find There may be one or two on this forum that will be easier to work with per my above thoughts.
