  • Vogel Lake...2nd attempt.

Alaska Tribe...we are planning to get together at Vogel Lake cabin. We have the use of the cabin from Noon Sunday (April 9) to Noon Monday (April 10).
Hopefully the weather will work this time. If we don't go soon, we are going to run out of ski conditions. If you are planning to showup, please give us a headsup via this thread. If you don't know for sure or just decide at the last minute...come on anyhow. Dick

The cabin is located at the south end of Vogel Lake in the Dave Spencer Wilderness Area. Refer to USGS map Kenai D-2. GPS: Latitude 60° 59' 20"N, 150° 25' 41"W (WGS84/NAD83)

        Re: Vogel Lake...2nd attempt.

Alaska Tribe! Scott will bring his bird and I will bring mine. We should hear from Lance by this evening.

Scott will be the odd man out as he is bringing his experimental. A very nice one I might add...It is much like a Piper Producer/Bushmaster. He started with a piper colt fuselage, added cub wings and extended the fuselage and some huge flaps,160 lycoming and on an on...Performs very well and requires very little rudder input, nothing like the Tcraft.

Alaska Tribe, It's about 11:10 a.m., Sunday...I'm heading for Vogel Lake. Jim Hartley and a friend are about to leave from the North side. Hopefully Steve Long will there before long. Anyone else that's able to come over for the afternoon or evening...come on! We have the cabin until noon on Monday(tomorrow). Dick

Re: Vogel Lake...2nd attempt a washout...!

Alaska Tribe, we tried Vogel Lake again...the ice just looked questionable. I had a terrible time getting off of my lake (slushy snow) and it looked a lot better than Vogel. Jim and a friend, Scott...had flown up the day before and it checked out ok. Steve flew over...and seeing no one there, made the decision to not land. I was up there twice and think we probably made the right decision. Tomorrow, I plan to move off the lake ice here at the house. On to wheels and then floats...well, nuts, better go unload the bacon, eggs, butter, bread, strawberries, spuds...it will probably freeze tonight! Dick
