Tribe, you know you are in airplane country, when the paper reads like this...
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/aviat...-7469762c.html Here in Alaska, we are really blessed by the presence of the Alaska Air National Guard and the Rescue Coordination Center. (And the CAP, even though they aren't referred to in this case). Dick

Sounds like quite a ride...glad he made it! I have a friend that had to dump his Stinson in Yakutat and he said the one thing he learned from that was, just because you have survival gear along with you, doesn't mean you'll be able to get to it when you need to... he said they (he and his wife) bobbed up to the surface and what they had on is all that they got out of there with.. luckily a boat saw them go down and was right there... but now he always wears a vest with basic survival stuff in it.. all the time!!

In the SAR lesson in ground school it was said: You dress so you can walk home!
I fly in a populate area so I don't have as far to walk as it is in other places. Consider what you need to "walk home", or to stay with the plane for 24 hrs.
Granola or choklet bars and water in the First Aid kit. Do we all have LARGE bandages, army style in the First Aid kit, something what can stop a severe bleeding? not just band aids. What about what strong knife? Can you carve out a walking stick? Handy after you dune a hard landing and hurt your legs.
