I spoke to a former owner of my T-Craft last night...he restored it in 1981.....what an interesting guy. He built an Exp SuperCub with Taylorcraft wings on it and a 150 lycoming....really cool. He said it is a fantastic performer. I just thought you guys might find it interesting.....

Re: Taylorcraft wings on a SuperCub
I think I read somewhere that Piper built an experimental Cub with a 23012 wing.
Some of the experimental guys in the Great White North might try a 23012 wing on a Cub like that, with a "Krueger Flap" on the leading edge for slow speeds and the VG's on top of the wing. If the VG's don't slow a T-craft down too much in cruise then it wouldn't slow down a T-Cub mixed breed either. The Krueger Flap could allow the airplane to operate at the higher AOA and deck angle. If my guess is anywhere near correct, they could have an airplane with 99% of the STOL they have now and add another 15-20 mph in cruise. The Krueger Flap could easily be just a piece of sheet netal with a rolled leading edge. When retracted, the rolled edge radius could sit in a shallow recess in the lower rear leading edge aluminum skin. This would require a slightly re-worked set of ribs, but it might be justified. A 1/4 scale R/C model would prove it out well enough to see if it was worth building up a set of wings.Taylorcraft : Making Better Aviators for 75 Years... and Counting

Re: Taylorcraft wings on a SuperCub
Dan, funny how small the world is sometimes. I worked for Marv 20-some years ago and helped him on the rebuild on your bird. There's probably still a few pieces of skin off my hands inside your wings. I've got to call him myself, heard I'm on his sh*t list for not calling in a while.

Re: Taylorcraft wings on a SuperCub
That's great. It's neat to hear about the plane. It spent it's entire life in the North. First Bismark N.D. then Grand Rapids MN, then Duluth, MN, then Claire, MI, then to me in 1993 in the U.P. of Michigan. These forums really bring folks together in the Aviation Community. Marv said he bought it from some Air Force boys who were re-covering it....the fuselage and tail feathers were covered, but he didn't like the job they did so he ripped it all off and re-did the fuselage. He said he owned a truck stop and restaurant....is he an A&P as well? I didn't even ask him last night. He sure does nice work.

Yep, I worked at the truck stop when I was high school, spent most everything I made on flying lessons. He always had more projects around than flying airplanes, don't know if he ever got an A&P, though he's certainly qualified. The Cassutt he built back in the 70's looks better than the majority of the factory built stuff out there. I was supposed to get together with him at Oshkosh last summer, but he had something come up and couldn't make it.
I'm happy to see the airplane is still around, thanks for joggling my memory.

He said the Cassutt is for sale. and he just finished a J-3. He asked if I had anything for sale...he must still enjoy it...I guess Saturday was his 71st or 72nd B-Day...they had a ski plane fly in at Cloquet that happened to be in conjuction with his Birthday.
