    Boyce

Boyce, be very careful of the horizontal tail spar structure on the Mustang 2. I lost a friend because of either a design flaw or something that was too easy to build improperly. His name was Troy Channing, who was a fellow Formula One race pilot. He and his crew chief were out doing acrobatics over the SF bay one day, the tail folded down under load, and the airplane pitched forward so hard it threw them both out through the canopy. The F-1 group has several HIGHLY experienced engineers... one of them determined that there had been a problem with the tail spar and that it was not designed as well as it could have been. If you e-mail me I will put you in touch with the engineer who can give you the straight story. The Mustang 2 is not a bad airplane at all, but like the RV-3 there might have been a place where it was too easy to make a mistake while building it that resulted in a weakened structure. The pilot that was lost, ironically, was also racing a Midget Mustang 1, which does NOT have any design issues and is known to be a strong, excellent aircraft.

Thanks for the heads up on that spar problem. I'll definitely be on the look out for potential problems!

My A&P sez he'll take a look early next week, but I'll take pics on Sat.

I just threw a log in my wood stove that looked better. Is it really Spring Equinox today?

Sensenich has replied saying don't bother.
                OK, that was expected.
Might be in the market for a W72CK44; depends on what my A&P has stored in the corner somewhere - Mike

That prop is still worth $180.00 to $400.00 as a wall hanger.... why a CK and why a 44 pitch......

Because W72CK44 was what I had on the first Tcraft.
It's a cruise prop; I don't find myself having to climb rapidly.
                      Wood looks good.

IMHO, go through everything else that is more important first... that welded cluster you are worried about, the spars, the landing gear etc etc. Once all that is sorted out and you know you have something flyable, then figure out whether you have enough money left over to buy a new/used metal prop or a wood prop. You can borrow a wood prop to ferry it home if you're going to remove the fabric right away. If you get lucky and find the airframe/engine are basically good, then you can consider buying a metal prop which gives you better performance and less maintenance. Since it's a bolt-on item costong XYZ dollars, the variable or unknown items should take precedence.
