  • NY state and auto gas

For folks in the tribe that live in NY(upstate) I found out today that auto fuel will not contain ethanol as a replacement for mtbe.
MTBE was banned in NY as of 01/01 and the news kept talking about price hikes because of the alcohol (price went up without the alcohol anyway), so I tested gas from a couple of stations and no alcohol, which prompted to make a couple of calls, upstate is dropping the mtbe and not adding anything to the gas.
So even if you don't live in NY, I hear most states are banning mtbe and it might be worth checking if it's being replaced in the fuel as a enhancer or not. I was in a panick thinking about a full time diet of 100LL.

    Bill,
That is great news. I was concerned that I was going to have to feed a diet of 100LL to that engine that was certified on 73 octane. I checked regularly at the local sunoco last summer and there was no alcohol. Another station 5 miles away does have the alcohol warning stickers on the pumps so I stay away from there.

Even better! MBTE didn't do anything good for performance. (Less BTUs per gallon)
