  • These amateurs are going to kill me

I have eBay set up so that if a Tcraft gets advertised I’m informed. Not that I’d buy off eBay, but I’d like to know what’s going on.

Anyway, a Tcraft pops up in Huntington, WV yesterday while I’m at work. Two things catch my interest; it’s not TOO far a drive, so I could look it over (since the bidding lasted 6 days) and it came with a ‘buy it now’ option to purchase it for $16,000. So, I’m thinking I’ll give the guy a call when I get home and if he says the correct things, locate an A&P to give it a look. Well, I call the guy and it had already been sold. Sight unseen. Buyer had apparently listened to the seller then sent him a check.

    Mike,
I tried to get in touch with you but by the time I found your number it had already sold. I had looked at this t-craft before(not for sell at the time)and it was very, very well worth the price it went for.

Apparently it was just a matter of hours from the time it was advertised until it sold.

If you know of any others, keep me in mind; I"m looking for the one in the barn for the last 15 years that needs the bird poop wiped off.

All you bird-pooped Tcraft out there please raise your hand! - Mike

Interesting though, for all the talk about LSA aircraft and how our birds will become more valuable after LSA takes affect, it seems there has been no shift at all. $16,000 for an airworthy (and apparently a nice ol' plane) Taylorcraft is cheap.

The most fantastic bargain in the sky. For the life of me I can't understand why the plane isn't in such high demand that it's price is outragous. Not that I'm complaining, if that were the case, I could not have afforded mine.

I've seen a couple of really good deals on E-bay of late. Strictly from an owners standpoint and good old supply and demand, I think that our birds are worth what we say they are worth. If we continue to sell our planes for chicken feed then that is what they are worth. Taylorcraft owners are a small group and the fleet is deteriorating quickly. If you have one in great shape then it should bring a great price.

No doubt about it, the T-Craft is a hot item right now. Prices will catch up later. That's the way markets work.

Soooo....sellers, hold off, wait for the prices to rise or ask 30% more than you think it's worth and see what happens.

And you Buyers, if you get a chance at a $16,000 flying T-Craft, best jump at it!

I don't want to get your hopes up too much, but my neighbor has a 39 BL65 in his barn. It belongs to his brother in Wis. The airplane is fairly complete and in very good shape. I have told him to come onboard to sell it, but he hasn't yet. I will try to call him tonight and get the owners number. George

Re: These amateurs are going to kill me

I watch the Taylorcraft market and it sure seems to me like prices are ticking upwards. They've been basically stagnant for 10+ years and now they seem to be steadily, albeit slowly, increasing in value.
As many of you know, I have a (shrinking) inventory of Taylorcraft parts......if I had the same stuff for Cubs, I could nearly retire on it. We should consider ourselves lucky to be able to keep these flying as cheaply as we do.
There certainly has been an increase in exposure lately. There's 2 great Taylorcraft pictures in the latest Sport Aviation magazine, one of Harry by the (only?) Taylorcraft Sport and one beautiful (familiar looking) green and yellow T in the EAA Airventure ad.

If you're looking to buy a project, I have one for sale. I think George mentioned it below in his e-mail, but I have a 1940 Taylorcraft BL-65 project for sale. It is a very complete project in very good shape. Fuselage and all tailfeathers have been blasted and 2 coats of 2 part epoxy applied and is essencially ready for recover. If your interested in purchasing it let me know.

Thanks for jumping in, but my wife + Forum + previous experience have me leaning towards a flying bird. - Mike

                        There's a BC12D wing on eBay starting at $4000. Yes, A wing.

Yeah and after almost a week it hasn't got a single bid.

                              Mike:

I believe they call that "lurking". It seems to be a bit of an art form. Whenever I try it I either bid too late and lose it, or I bid too early and someone slips in after me.

I've seen bids entered in the last 2 seconds, now that's precision clicking!
