Re: WANTED -- C90 or O200
I've got a line on an O200A, here are the details:
~ 3500 TT
~ 1200 SMOH (1985 overhaul)
~ 700 STOH (1989)
slick mags
no starter, generator, etc (I don't need electrics)
compressions:
- 68,68,72,72 (2003)
- 67,72,67,64 (2002)
last maintenance release was Dec 2004
$5000 USD
All comments are appreciated... I want to put this on my Aeronca Chief floatplane.

Re: WANTED -- C90 or O200
If the engine were difficult to remove and install I would suggest overhauling it first but since the Chief is so easy to access, I (if it were me) would buy it and get it installed and inspected and run it to TBO. I also would probably just bolt the thing up to the mount and then do the compressions and so forth, then in case it needs work you haven't wasted time hooking up and unhooking everything else. Even if it hasn't run for a while it should still pass Continental's very non-demanding specs on the compression. Also, maybe even before you buy it, if it has been sitting for a while you'ld want to have someone stick a boroscope in the cylinders and take a look for problems. Otherwise the 5K sounds like a decent price. One more note, on the top "overhaul", what was done? If it was just a hone and re-ring it may not be as tight as if they replaced or rebuilt the cylinders. A top overhaul can vary from just getting it airworthy to everything like new except for splitting the case. Are all the logs complete? bad logs = low value. Prop come with it? existing exhaust need to be replaced? Can you use the same engine mount and cowling? Don't forget to budget for all the extras...
