Attached is a photo of the primer that came with my 1951 Model 19 when I purchased the airplane. It is a Lunkenheimer primer patented Sept. 18th, 1917. I took the primer apart close to 3 years ago as it was more or less seized. From what I recall (I didn't take notes), there was a leather ring located between the brass plunger and the plunger shaft which served the same purpose as an O-Ring. There is no groove for a standard O-Ring. The brass plunger screws onto the plunger shaft and it seems to me the leather packing or ring was slipped over the threads of the shaft and then the brass plunger screwed on (the leather had pretty much disintegrated when I took the primer apart). Has anyone rebuilt one of these primers or know anything about them and is my recollection correct? If so, can the leather rings be purchased or would I have to make something up? Any assistance is much appreciated as I would like to reuse this primer.
