  • BC-12D Article - 1946 Skyways Magazine

I am going to try to attach a PDF file to this post which is a scanned article about the Taylorcraft BC-12D from the May 1946 issue of Skyways magazine. It is an interesting article with pictures and illustrations. The magazine is also amazing with ads for all of the general aviation aircraft that were in production at the time. General aviation was obviously in its heyday.

    Hopefully this works.

I see it didn't work. I just checked the file size and it is 9.61 megabytes. I am not sure how to compress a PDF file??

I rescanned making the pages JPG files and compressed the files. Maybe this will work however the the quality may be degraded to the point that the article is unreadable.

          Grant,
If you'd like to send them to me as a tif or anything but PDF, I'll post them to my webpage and they'll be readable in full size.

            Hi,

the gallery server is more liberal with sizes, so you might consider creating an account over there and then posting a link to it here

              That's great, Grant!

You're right, I wasn't able to read it, but the pictures were fantastic! I saved everything and maybe I can clean it up with photoshop so I can read it later.

You really set me to thinking...the yellow and black deluxe looked so good in the photo that I might just paint my project that way. And the line drawing of the cockpit highlights the windshield vent location and that funky old timey radio...maybe a guy could use an old fake radio faceplate in place of the glove box door...a hidden latch opens to reveal a handheld transciever and portable intercom.

              anyway, thanks Grant. Nice stuff.

Great story of a real 46 Deluxe , we had one for rental along time ago, same color scheme. I have two of those old funky radios; Motorola Air Boy Sr. & a Jr. too. Wait till you see the stuff I have on the Model 47 from the National air Races program from 1947...

Grant just sent me another great article, this one from the 1979 AOPA magazine on the F19, featuring that "Famed Aviator", Forrest Barber. Hey Forrest, do you have any relatives from North Dakota? That's where the Barber branch of my family is originally from.
Anyway, I posted it on my webpage.....here's the link and thanks again Grant!!

Brought back a few memories, Roger was one of the good pilots that wrote for the magazines back then. I did get to fly with a lot of them; Gordon Baxter, Richard Collins, Roger Rozelle do stand out. I will read the article again and maybe comment some more. thanks for the beautiful post.

I have read it all again. Wow!! That is Ken Luginbuhl flying the F-19 in the aerials & I am flying the photo ship. HE was killed in the crash of the D-52, the long winged ship built for Dauntless as a motor glider.
Then there is Dorothy ( the Mother of Light Aviation) As she put it "Everybody should own a Taylorcraft."
Good night all! I see Bill Berle is still up in Ca... Yes that is the main purpose of the Taylorcraft Basset sling behind the seats. Kelli is a wee bit over the 40lbs. but I just lean forward a bit
