Does anyone have a drawing or dimensions for the original cowl bumps? I'd like to try to make some as close as possible to original. This thread has come up before but I don't think anyone put a drawing on.

    Thanks

Hi TF 527 I have original shape from the F-19 in Royalite, would lend them to you. Works better than drawing that needs a lot of lofting.. Tjhe ones on my own Taylorcraft are from an older "D" from the factory in 1941. They are aluminum of course. They are the ones we used to make the wooden mold for here at Barber Aircraft.

Jason and Bob Gustafson? have the two bumps that I had. I think they have been successful duplicating them.

        Re: Cowl Bumps

I made a mold to duplicate Carl's cowl bump. Made several copies. Sold 4 on eBay, kept 2 for myself. Sent the mold to Jim Allison in Texas. He will make copies and then send to rdwater in NM.

Anyway, anyone that would like to use the mold contact me on the PM thing and I'll get you on the rotation. Detail here under fiberglass.

          Ed,

Whomever made mine, years ago, made them by hand. Just very small bumps, really. Cut out the small area in the cowl, hand pounded some very small bumps to clear the plugs, and riveted them into place. Very clean and mostly unobtrusive.

            Re: Cowl Bumps

I have a question about my boot cowl. The cowl that came with my project did not match the paint on the plane. When I tried to fit the cowl and the windshield the cowl seems to be about one inch to long by the front of the door. Could this cowl be from a prewar or are they all the same. All help is appreciated. George

There are three sizes and they vary a bit too...fitted at the factory on the line to match. I measure from the top hinge to the firewall length along a level line with the ship leveled to determine which is which. I have two brand new short ones here from 1946.
