  • New Champs

Just spoke with Jerry in WI about the new Champ. A new certified Champ that also qualifies as a LSA, with an 0-200 Cont. That is the good news, the bad news is $85K bare bone, no radios.

Guess I will be keeping my trusty T-Craft. Would love to do like Forest is speaking of and take a nice trip around the USA in the Duck. Even with limited baggage. There is always Wal-Mart. Travel like we do on motorcycles. Very light.

A thought : Fly from T-Craft owned grass strips to the next T-Craft owned grass strip. My strip is available should anyone care to stop by. Should be interesting. Even the Clip-Wings could come by, or the L-2's. Any Austers being flown here? Those too are welcome.

and the mosquitoes are bigger than your Tcraft!!!

We used to water ski in the bayous (west Pearl) in Slidell. I always told people that the alligators gave you incentive not to fall!!!

I would love to do a coast to coast, stopping at grass strips, putting up a tent, very leisurely. How about a formation, Lee?

The baggage bit: IF you have the room , the large baggage area of the Model 19 & F-19 is great for big light things., AND I have seen some people fly with over 40 lbs. back there , really it has been done.
Be careful out there , rumor has it that a small person has been carried back there in a pinch..... seated aft or sideways...

When I first bought 44008 I took a friend golfing with me. The Land O Lakes, WI golf course is right at the airport...the runway runs paralell to one of the fairways. We took ourselves and our golf clubs(in the extended baggage sack) C-85 on short mount 1280 gross. I was 175 lbs, friend 185 lbs...2 sets of Clubs ???? and 24 gals of fuel . No Ill effects were noticed...it felt loaded, but not unstable..... How much do golf clubs weigh? I would think twice before doing that again...I was 23 then and indestructable...now almost 40 and a little smarter. Still...It flew fine I'm sure my CG was AFT. And I thank CG for designing such a forgiving airplane.

Some years ago, a friend of a friend from Alaska stopped by on his way south for the winter. I peeked in the back of his T-craft and found coolers, lawn chairs, camping gear, rifles & baggage going darn near all the way back! I guess the "rules" are a little different up north.

The guy I bought my Tcraft from weighed 325, his son about 200 and I've seen them BOTH get in (Gary would crawl in head first then turn around inside.. it was something to see!!) with a FULL load of baggage, 24 gallons of fuel and waddle off the runway (at about 3000' msl, not figuring in density altitude, and it was summer)!! We figured it out once and before they put fuel in they were about 160% of the useful load, if I remember . It has the short mount, 85hp, and 1280 gross, and at the time had bad fabric and spars that weren't too shiny either! When he bought it, a friend of mine went with him to check him out when he brought it home... Mike said he couldn't stall it because Gary was so big they couldn't get the yoke back far enough!!
That pretty much sold me on that airplane and what it can do!!

                  Alwaysoar, Richard:

Maybe we could get a few T-Crafts going and meet and pick up others along the way. Would be very interested.

I believe that there has been more than one T-Craft that has navagated across these states before.

Speaking about this, Anyone flying to Sun & Fun ?

                  When Leaving :

                  From Where :

                  Camping ? :
