    Re: Fire Awareness

The key word there, I think is "part 23 certified aircraft". Our Tcraft's type certificate (A-696) was certified under CAR-04. This can be found under "Specifications Pertinent to All Models". So from what I'm told, we have to comply with parts and products that are at least as good or better than original per certification basis. Like I said before though, most of the fabrics I've seen lately have met the specs, from what I can tell.
We went through something like this with a 1929 Fairchild 71 that I used to take care of.. it had wicker seats... and that was the ruling by the Seattle FSDO and MIDO.

Hi all, Consider a local welding supply as the source for your extinguisher. I got a 2.5 lb halon rechargeable unit for about $75. Looks like one of those dry powder units. I also could have gotten a CO2 unit for similar price. Dave.

Dano, that is exactly the one I have and purchased it from them also. In 50+ yrs of flying have never needed one myself, but cheap insurance.

Hi all, very interesting subject. I did a Google search and found this interesting site for further information. I will probably add an extinguisher to my list of items to get soon.

Halon is not to be used there pepole is as it removes the oxygen in the air.
