Damn, the new Sport looks good. Wanted one, but now believe they will be out of my price range. Looks like everyone is migrating to the 85K range. Way too much for me.
Either find one to restore or have Kevin do one for me. Would really like to do one myself. Never have. Repaired and put back in service, but never have done a complete restortation.
So guess, I am back looking for a project or a newly restored T-Craft with at least an 85, an 0-200 would be nicer.
The Duck is fine, but will need re-covering in a few years. Don't want to be without. So thought start now.
Received my VG's from Micro Aero and will paint them today. Then start installing them.
Lee, I hope you get some good data before and after the installation... I'm really curious about VG's on a Tcraft. The one thing I wondered about mostly is how it would affect the "float" tendency at landing.... I've installed about 20 sets on various other planes and everyone loves them, so I'm really interested in the Tcraft!

I come in at about 45-50 like I am going to do full stall and hold it just shy of stalling and as wheels touch I rock foward ie: wheel landing, which reduces float and stops shorter.
On take off, I use the way I was taught in the Army for shortest T/O.
Full power, release brakes, dont push full tail up , but rather just so the tail is off the ground and hold it there, the aircraft will lift off on it's own and levitate almost straight up, like an elavator. This has been my shortes T/O. Then hold 50-55 until clear all obstacles.
But, I will go mark my inital T/O location and my landing spot before and after the VG's
On the float again. I find a wheel type landing to be the shortest and best landing for float. Or sometimes I come in no faster than 40-45. This does not leave you any engery for flare and landing, except both occur about the same time. It also elimate floats. But you need to be quick. I never let new students do this.
Frank, I use both power off and carry some power, depends on the situation. On short strips with good approaches, I usually do not carry power.At my home with large trees, I carry power to control my rate of decent. If you carry power, cut the power once you have the field made, but remember to lower you nose some then. Others, I've seen carry power till near touch down, but I find no power on short final give the shortest landing.
Go up to an altitude you feel comfortable with. Try several airspeeds, do turns and straight. Each time finish with a stall. You will notice that you will be pulling back a bit to get it to stall.
Get up a little higher, clear out your baggage comp. and any loose objects in the cock pit and try cross control turns and finish with a stall. You will likely spin over the top. If you are not comfortable with spins or do not have adequate recovery experience, get someone who has or a flight instructor that is familiar with this.
Again at these low speed there is not much energy left for flairing, and there will be no float. So get someone that has done this before. It would be ashame to have a hard landing and mess your landing gear or even bend the T-Craft. It is a very quick action.

I have large trees at both ends, and it is short. I also try an fly solo most of the time. If someone wants to come, I pick them up at another field.
