So the Taylor Sport is essentially a BC12D with an O-200, right?

    Electrics?

Does that mean that you can legally put a stock O-200 on a BC12D now?
    (or close to legally?)

I'm with you lets get this thread going. I want to see where it goes. Eventhough the c-90 might be a better install. The o-200 might be a neat upgrade. I like the o-200 short mount with a altinator that is wind driven/solar powered

Doubt that any S-LSA design or engineering data can be applied to any certified aircraft.

        Re: Taylor Sport

It states plainly that an aready certified aircraft can not be re-certified to fit light sport so the model 19 and F-19 will be out of the question as well as any BC12D's that have been upgraded with the Gilbert or Harer STC's unless you only did the BC12D-85 leaving the gross at 1280. However it is the taylorcraft factory building a certified, upgraded version of the BC12D. You can take a BC12D and do the same mods to make it an F-19 on a 337 if all factory mods are complete and accurate so I don't see why it would be any different to do the same for a Taylor Sport. I'll have to ask my buddy with the FAA.....maybe Eric can also give us some insite on this.

Funny you should mention this... Bruce Bixler & I were discussing my retirement airplane. Patty, Kelli-Belle & I will tour the country in a BC12D-85 1280 Gross with an 0-200 up front . I just found the engine over the week-end in my side maintenance room even has a prop with it! Well it is past midnight here in Alliance. Good night all!! Ohhh Patty

              Re: Taylor Sport

As I understand it, S-LSA are not approved by or built in accordance with a tyep certificate. It is approved by verifying compliance with ASTM standards. That was a major part of the whole proposal, to make it easier to get newly-designed aircraft into production and to the market without busting the bank like a normal part 43 (or whatever) certification. So the S-LSA approval of the Taylor Sport has nothing to do with any other, earlier Taylorcraft, unless they start selling kits for an E-LSA version-- "experimental" aka owner-built. Doesn't have to be 51% owner-built either, can be a "major kit".
You can read more about the whole S-LSA and E-LSA thing on the EAA's sport-pilot website. www.sportpilot.org

                  Re: Taylor Sport

Right now there is only one way to install an 0-200 in a BC12-D. . . . . Use APPROVED DATA. Approved data may be in the form of :
                  1) Manufacturer supplied data
                  2) An STC
                  3) A one time STC (These are a little easier than a full blown STC but still difficult)

Unfortunately- our guidance changed and we are only allowed to field approve a 10% HP Increase. I think we really need to push the factory to formulate a retrofit kit and offer engines/ props. I bet they would have alot of interest!

                    Re: Taylor Sport

I'd Bet money that the wing spars have 11/16" bushings and re-inforced strut attach fittings (BA809-2) and butt fittings on the Taylor Sport. So in essence this is a BC12D-85 without the nose tank and with two 21 gallon wing tanks and a gross weight of 1320. Close to a BC12D...but no cigar. Maybe, as Eric stated the factory could come up with an STC to upgrade a BC12D to this and sell all the necessary parts one would need. There is no way it would be just a bolt on deal though. You would essentially be doing the Harer STC up to a BC12D-85 and then modifying even further to accomodate the large wing tanks. Seems pointless to me. Just do the Harer or a 337.

                      Re: Taylor Sport

It is my understanding that the Taylor Sport is a F-19 with a lesser gross and no back window. It has an 0200 not a C-85.

                      Forrest,
I have only one question......Where in the hell are you going to put your baggage ?

                        Re: Taylor Sport

Ooops I guess I made it sound like it had a C-85 in it. I was just trying to say that it was not just a BC12D with an O-200 in it. It was more complicated than that. How are the 21 gal wing tanks mounted in the wings??? don't the ribs interfere with a tank that big? Forrest, maybe you can get Kelli-belle a leather helmet and some goggles and she can ride out on the wing strut.

One baggage spot overlooked all the time is to use two softbags like in a motorcycle under your legs up front, the large baggage compartment ala Model l9 & F-l9 is still very useful... then there is Mrs. Feris's "fishing rod" tube on the F-19.
