    Re: New to Taylorcraft

Spruce catalog lists tire and bearings for the Heath t/w- p/n 06-03600 @ $26.40. Pretty cheap for approved aircraft parts. It does NOT appear to be the same wheel as used on the Lang & Scott 2000, at least according to Spruce. The parts for those are way more money. It IS the same replacement wheel as listed for the 6" Homebuilders Special.
The blurb for the Heath t/w sez "steerable", doesn't mention swivelling. Is it in fact a non-swivelling t/w? The swivel feature is handy for parking and ground-handling, but I guess you could get away without it if need be.

Will dig out the good old Spruce Cat tomorrow, learn something new everyday. Will order one & see if it fits. Yes, Heath made them for Taylorcraft, Aeronca, etc.. and put the manufacturer name on them. pics tomorrow...

No such thing as cable tension on the rudder cables, with the exception of the return spring. All the turnbuckles do is adjust the position of the pedals for tall or short people! You don't want much in the ailerons either or they'll get hard to move. (I was going to say stiff, but decided not to)

        LP Aeroplastics for the windshield.

And if you can find the correct attachments from the rear cable to the rudder horn you have a set of plates that allows for the cable length to be adjusted very quickly for variois length of leg.....I have some will photo

            Re: New to Taylorcraft

Thanks all for the great feedback - great discussion group. Tried to replace with a Lang or Scott based on everyone's feedback - EVERYONE seems to be out and B/O on both until the end of March - so..... went the rebuild route. New bushing, control arm, lock-pin etc. MUCH better - now very tight - and little/no shimmy - although I've ordered the Maule anti-shimmy spring set just to be sure. Will run for a while and then decide if I need to replace once everyone gets stock again.

Couldn't be more please with the plane - still have a wish list of "cosmetic" stuff to do - but that's the fun of owning an older plane !!!!!
