  • Best headset with handheld radio

I've got a Delcom 960 handheld that I use in my plane. Its wired to an external antenna. My current headset is an old David Clark HT10. I receive alright but there is a log of background noise in my transmissions. My cousin is a regular passenger and we use an intercom. We plug both headsets into the intercom. Between my headset and his and the intercom our biggest problem is making our way through all the wires! Anyway he just bought a later model of my headset and because of the type of microphone it has there is a feedback problem with his.

I'm just wondering if any of you have been through this and came up with a headset that works well.

    Thanks,

    Lightspeed 15k and 20K
    Icom A22
    Sigtronics Transcom II
The only problem I had was that I run out of squelch on the Icom on hot summer days here it Texas. That "breaking of squelch" would drive me nuts on final, so I would just turn the radio off.

Light Speed , Soft-Comm and an older ComSpec x-mitter with a radio shack antenna back in the fuselage somewhere on a screen for a ground plane. Noise rejection in the radio is the answer, have another friend who wired in an additional resistor to solve the Sq breaking problem.

I have the same problem with my Delcoms ( I have two). I just listen on the David Clark headset and transmit directly on the radio. Awkward

When I bougth the plane I needed a Radio and head set.
There was new one's on Ebay for $ 90 bucks. I think they are still sold there. It works great but no noise canselation. But they have pretty good noise protection.
I also have an old softcom for witch I need a speaker.
does any one have one for sale?

Icom A-22, Pilot Avionics intercom, cheapo $59 headsets from I can't remember where, and a PTT. The whole thing works great...trouble free for almost 13 years. Squelch works, PTT works...couldn't ask for better IMHO. I have an external antenna on the left wing fairing and I power it all including my Etrex Legend GPS with a 12v battery pack (rechargable). I mounted a bracket for the intercom on the little panel in front of the seat by the floor (in front of where the bungies are) keeps everything out of the way, and you can reach down for the knobs...you can't see it, so you need to know which knob is which. I have shielded ignition and I always get comments on how well I am recieved (they are surprised it's a handheld) I have a bracket made for the Icom as well over the left glove box door. The VOR works good on it too.

A22 W/alkaline batt pac + Peltor 7004 + external antenna on boot cowl. Works fantastic.

Never use them much. I prefer ear plugs and "thumbs up" with a little shake of the tail or waggle of the wings and keepin my eyes moving.

I have the ICOM A-4, receiver only (cheapest available) Works great, outside ant. with wire comming from the rear center part of the seat and I use the handset itself by placing it in the center of the seat, between me and my student or whoever is flying with me. I just press the handset's mike button. Works really good. Nothing fancy. The batt. and two place IC are on the floor in the center next to the seat. (12 V/7 amp. radio shack). Wire comming in from the floor from the "Turbo Alternator" Head sets (David Clark) pluged into the IC. So very little wires.

However, I have been thinking about the Microair 2 1/4 unit.

Check out My dad's external antenna...he just took the rubber coated one that came with his Icom and bought an adapter from Radio shack and mounted it on the wing fairing. it looks like a banana when I fly next to him cause it bends in the breeze....but it works! That's me picking his plane up for him after an annual.
