Hi group, I have been reading the posts for several weeks now and thought I would introduce myself. I live in texas and have just gotten my tail wheel endorcement!! I am now looking for a good BC12D to fly and love. I have been doing a lot of reading to find out what I need to look for and hopefully how to tell the good from the bad. Any input would be welcome. If anyone knows of a good taylorcraft for sale let me know! I would prefer it to be in the texas area but would consider all. Thanks and have a happy new year. Dan

Re: New to group
Welcome to this group! You will find the Taylorcraft to be an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable airplane to own and fly. to this day, some 70 years later, they can't build anything that's any more of a value over the long haul. You will be able to ask people at any airport... "Well, how many 737's can you show me that have been flying safely and cheaply for 60 years???" Not to mention that the T-craft will make you a more skilled pilot.

Re: New to group
NTG
Where are you in Texas?
There are plenty of t-crafts around and you will not find a cooler airplane. Don't buy any rust buckets and don't listen to people that talk about the wood spars. Its a great plane and will definitely turn heads.
I'm in Marfa, Texas. If you want to come out and look at one that is in pieces, I will sure show it to you. It's not for sale though.
I saw one that hit a post after a propping accident for sale. It looked like a great fixer upper that could be done right, and done quickly. If you get it right you could take it to the factory for a little work and away you go.......I think that was on the net and an insurance co had it.
I'm assuming you are in central Texas somewhere. There are a couple of projects in San Antonio one in Houston. There is a good flyer in Casa Grand Arizona for a pretty good price. Good luck...Read the stuff on this forum and get educated.......pretty soon you will have one of the slickist planes around.
Of course you can go down to Brownsville and buy a brand spankin new sport plane or f-19.

Re: New to group
Howdy Dan,
You are gonna love this airplane and you will own a piece of American history. In addition, the folks on this forum are a great bunch and most helpful.
Oh, by the way, don't tell anyone I said this but you need to watch out for Robert Lees-something about red leather pants...........Best Regards

Re: New to group
Howdy Dan,
Welcome to the tribe and this source of tribal knowledge.
There are several T-craft owners in and around San Antonio who can easily and gladly show you what to look for in a good Taylorcraft. Maybe you are close enough for a good out-n-back flight.Best Regards,

Re: New to group
There was a time when I rode the bull at "Cotton eye'd Joes" up north of you, ah what I would ggive to relive that week! Started out with the CAF blow-out at Harlingen in 1980 as I recall. This first attempt at using the new computer at the house with High Speed and lots of bells & gadgets...
I am still a 'grasshopper" at this internet stuff...Taylorcraft Foundation, Inc
