  • Adjusting the wash-in/out

Folks - Went out the plane today with the intention of adjusting the wash-in by 1/2 a turn.
The attach bolt was hard to turn, even after a generous application of penetrating oil, which led me to think there may be some forces acting on the bolt, such that I'd be unpleasently suprised when I do succeed in removing it!

What motion of the wing should I be prepared for when I remove the bolt?

No one has mentioned removing or having to re-adjust/align the jury struts; will they need attention?

    Ah yes good old #472.
Mike this is not really an owner "preventative maintenance" item.
Now if your favorite A&P could be contacted by phone, he could tell you that the through bolt when removed will allow the wing to drop down if there is no bolt there. This is really a two man operation, boy do I wish you were closer to Alliance.
    (edit)
OOOPs just noticied what you said about turning the bolt; never "turn" bolts, nuts are made to turn. Bolts are stationary and only turned a wee bit to facilitate tapping then out with a soft drive pin.
Have the "tip" man use the spar intersections to the tip bow to support the wing. Yes the jury strut has to be released from the rear strut! The rear of the wing has to be "twisted " up to allow the strut adjuster to be accessable. ( OR better yet release both struts so the whole wing can move up)
Make the adjustment out or in . Record where that hole is in relation to the slot in the rear sturt ie. clear out , clear in , 1/3rd out etc... Put bolt back in , nut etc.... and give her a test flight.
    bye

thank you sir. I'd like to throw some business his way as he's been most helpful and I"d like to continue forming a relationship.
We'll see each other one of these days.
I promised Hank he'd be the first I visit as he was really very patient with all my questioning, but Alliance is on my list.
It looks like you're only 211 miles from FRR, so the trip is readily do-able. - Mike
