We here in Alabama are being taxed at 1% of our airplanes value per year does anyone else pay such a heavy state tax on airplanes. Boats in this state are taxed by length a 35 footer is around 40.00 so where do they get 200.00 for a T Craft?
I ask a friend once if he paided any taxes, his reply was isn't that a state between Louisanna and New Mexico. I liked that.

No property tax on planes in NY but they make up for taxing you outrageously on land/school/income. They also collect sales taxe on in state sales and use tax (same rate as sales) for a/c brought in from out of state.

NC taxes the plane at about .9% ($180 for tcraft) in the county where we have property but the prop and school taxes are less than NY by thousands.

When I lived in CT payed prop taxt too but forgot the rate.

My county in NC has a property tax rate of 0.83 %. However, antique/classic aircraft (1954 or earlier) can quality for an assigned tax value of $5000. This has brought a number of warplanes into the state.

No sales tax if between individuals. Sales tax if sold by a dealer.

Here is where a Incorporation of your plane in Deleware makes a lot of sence. Also creates another fence for the bottom feeding Lawyers to have to jump their blubber guts over .

I have heard of personal property taxes on airplanes in some counties in texas. but most people won't pay it and the county's can't collect it, so most people disregard it.

It is a $60 annual "registration fee" in Washington State.

I pay 35 bucks annually in Iowa. This is only for old classic airplanes. Newer airplanes are taxed at a higher rate.

In Michigan it's 1 cent per gross weight pound.So a 1200# gross weight T-Craft is $12. But they also send you a very nice Michigan airport directory & Chart no charge.

IN Louisiana, no sales tax on occassional sales or purchase of aircrafts for personal use. Corporate is something else. No annual personal property tax either. YET !

We have to pay annual property tax in Ky for anything and everything with a title. On cars its based by a percentage of book value or what you paid for it, which ever is the least. I think it is the same for aircraft. A Cessna 170 is about $400 a year and my last 2(flyable)t-crafts were around $200. They don't charge you taxes for aircraft projects but you do have to go to the local(county)PVA office and tell them that it is a non-flying project.

No personal property tax in Maryland. But they'll send you a nastygram saying you are delinquent in paying your state sales tax (5%)and penalties will apply......Oh guess how they find out you bought an airplane. The state gets the information about your new purchase from the FAA, hmmmmm. Now for the good part: if you bought your plane in another state, did the business transaction there, and delivered the plane to Maryland yourself. There is no sales tax! Then they say "Well you're right that's what the law says so now it's a USER FEE and you have to pay anyway." That's when you ask them about the 'rational nexus' Which basically means that in order for a government to tax you for something they have to provide some kind of related service to charge for. Now I know some states do a lot for aviation infrastructure. But not MD. They operate BWI and one other airport near BWI. The operating part is more like ground services. So in my 1939 t-craft with no electrical system I cannot avail myself of the food concession operation at BWI. !@#$% I can't even fly over a third of the state because of the ADIZ! (Look up the info on the AOPA site about where to write your letters to remove the ADIZ. or you may be seeing one soon in a city near you). After several phone conversations and letters back and forth. They stopped saying I had to pay the 'user fee'.

That ADIZ stuff is really somthing. They were talking about putting one up here near MRF but have not yet done it.

Amen, Paul. One of a hundred reasons we live in OK. But they will nick you bad on sales tax.
