  • BC12D seatbelts

    Hi all
I had no seat belts in the basket cast I restored so have no info on seat belt attach points. There are two small gussets with holes on outboard side that may have been used for a single lap belt across both occupants. Crossmember at that point has no attach points in the middle which would permit two lap belts. I also want to install shoulder harness and can use any tips out there from you experts.

    Al -

When I restored my 46 BC12D last year, there was a wire and tube assembly that fit underneath the seat sling and attached to holes in four gussets on the bottom tubes on both sides of the plane. This wire and tube assembly had attach points for two lap belts - one for the pilot and one for the passenger. I think that you need to find one of these assemblies.

There are a lot of ways to attach shoulder harnesses - some require more paperwork than others. I used the Style No. 3A "Y" Shoulder harness from Spruce and attached it to the cross tube above and behind the shoulders. If we're in an accident, it surely will bend the frame at that point and I like that because it will slow down my deceleration! Easier to repair the plane than me.

    Good luck. Bob

The seatbelt assembly is quite complex really. I will take a picture of mine and forward it to you so you can get a look at it.
