  • Pulley problems

I'm shopping for pulleys in Aircraft spruce. I must not be understanding something because I can't find phenolic pulleys that match up with the ones that are on my 1945 BC12 D. Mine have the 3/8 OD X 3/8 long bronze bushing that is bored for the AN3 bolt. Can anyone help in this regard?

Ya got to call taylorcraft and order them. They are in stock and about $20 each. They now use a ball bearing instead of the bushing. The ones in the cabin are not your standard AN/MS pulley.

      Thanks Jason

I will take better care of the ones I have and call the factory. I wonder why they make things harder than they need to be? The beauty of the T-Craft is its simplicity.

          Kevin

Let me take a look at what I have. I think I need one each. Thanks for the offer, I will take you up on it. I hate being such a bum but do you have a pair of servicable fairleads too? I don't have anything to trade yet but I'm happy to pay.

          Thanks

            Re: Pulley problems

Regarding fairleads, I just got our shop lathe up and running and need some practice projects. I was thinking of making up some fairleads for my rebuild. Anyone have a drawing for exact reference to the dimensions and care to share?? I was going to make them out of some newer nylon like Rob Lees did. BTW cub style ones don't fit all that well.

              Re: Pulley problems

The folks at Classic Aero Support (Doug Combs) stock one of the pulleys, and is in the process of getting the other. I talked to him the other day and he was interested in providing more Tcraft parts.

he has the 3" in stock.

              Working on getting the 1.75.

                Jim,
I don't think I have any extra fair leads but I will check.Just let me know when you find out for sure how many pulley of each size you need.

                  Re: Pulley problems

I have a used fairlead that has a chip out of it and is unuseable, but I am keeping it to use as a pattern for when I can afford a shop lathe.

I would be happy to donate it as a pattern. Let me know.
                  Best Regards,

                    Re: Pulley problems

I know exactly what the fairleads on a Cub look like. Are you guys saying that the fairleads on a BC12D look similar to those?

Mine look nothing like that and I suspect they were handmade at some point in the last sixty years.

If someone had a drawing or made one up from the an old example, I would be interested and could make some on my lathe, too.

                      All

I think I managed to get fair-leads from the factory. When I receive them I will confirm. 8 bucks. They also had the 2 inch trim pulley and will be producing Instrument panels in January. I told them to just go ahead and put me down for one.

                        Re: Pulley problems

No, the cub style fairleads are not the same. They are 2 piece and held together with a ring clip, where the Taylorcraft ones are one piece with just a tiny bit larger O.D. and length. I used some cub ones for the aileron cables because it was all I had at the time. They fit kinda loose but work better than nothing.
