Jason, your trim tab is an early Model D tab. I don't when your ship was built but it may have on your ship from day one. The rest of your tail is also model D. Dick
My BC12-D also had a plywood trim tab. It looked perfect, but when I removed the fabric I found the plywood underneath was completely rotten. The whole thing just crumbled to dust! I had to use the old fabric as a template to make a new plywood structure.
Looking at the photo of the crack in the lower tail section. Do you think the damage was a result of rust or from a "Hard landing"?
Thanks for showing us the pics. Im sure glad to know someone else is out there at the same level of rebuild that I'm at. I just aquired NC43011 about 30days ago. So far I don't have any of the problems you have. 011 was a west Texas BC12-D.
Would you mind sharing your vision for your ship? I dont have an engine yet but I'm thinking about the c-85 using the harel STC. [email protected]
So far I know that I am going to need some of the "C" channel used to make the ribs in the horizontal stab. Looked through my Spruce catalog and didn't find it. Both elevators and the trim tab need some work. Anyone have a serviceable set for sale to help speed up this rebuild?

Maybe that C-channel is more of the Dahlstrom extrusions that Mike H and I ran into.
Hello: As a graduate of Saint Martin's University in Lacey, WA, you made me very homesick for the Pac NW. I have uncovered '46 BC12-D Deluxe N43306 and found light rust on the tail feathers but not the level of corrosion ssen on yours...reflects the difference in climate as I am in South TX now. My '46 has a metal trim tab and actuator that is similar to a replacement trim tab actuator that I have from a '40 BL65. Good luck on your recover and a quick return to theose beautiful woods and mountains! I also liked your engine installation...my A65 is ready to reassemble. Doc

Hey Dick,
My plane is a 46' s/n 7302 first flight 3/30/46. Are the post war tail feathers the same as the Model D? None of my Tcraft books show the horizontal stab as having diagonal ribs like mine. Any advantage one way or the other? I should be able to use the all metal trim tab (1673-1) right?
