  • Wooden prop for A-75

My friend is jealous of my ariplane. His 1941 BC-12 is lighter than my 1946 BC-12. He has an A-75 and a metal prop. I have an A-65 and a wooden prop (Sensenich 72-42). When we fly formation, his climb performance is worlds better than mine. But it kills him that I can slightly outrun him in the straight and level.

He flew my airplane the other day and it reminded him how smooth a wooden prop is. So he asked me to petition y'all to see if anyone has a wooden prop for his A-75 that will give him the smoothness and speed he's after even if it comes at the expense of his superb climb rate.

He wants a nice prop and is willing to spend appropriately.

    Tim,
I have a Sensenich 72/44 but it needs to go to the shop and be rebuilt. It will fly but I really, really recommend having it rebuilt.I'll take $300 plus shipping.

My friend says is prop is thus:
          Metal McCauley T.C. 842 PC3 CM 69 ½” x 42” 1B90

So if he has a 69.5" prop operating at 2350 rpm (A-75) and he changes to Crispy Critter's 72 x 44 will the bigger diameter keep him from operating at 2350? How does that work?

            Tim,
The A-75 should turn the same rpm's with the 72/44 without any problem.I had it on an A-65 and turned it up to 2300rpm's and had to back off the gas to prevent the engine from busting the red line. The wood prop is much lighter making it easier to turn.Just to let you know,Smurf(the blue and white T-craft that I sold a while back)would indicate 100+/- mph at 2200 with this prop.

              My 1B90 74-42 spinns 2600rpm straight and level. 2300 rpm static (A65/75)

                Re: Wooden prop for A-75

I just purchased an A-75, with tapered shaft, to put in my '46 BC-12D. What is the standard "recommended" size of wood prop for this airplane? Sensenich's website doesn't give a prop model for an A-75. Tried searching here for the info, but too much information caused no return on the search. Thanks!!!
                Cheers,
                Marty

                  Re: Wooden prop for A-75

The correct metal prop is the 70-38 for the A-75. The wooden 72-44 certainly will not turn up enough to allow the 75 HP to be developed....
