    Can anyone tell me the cable & bungie lengths & dia. for federal 1500 ski's for a Taylorcraft? Thanks in advance, Eric

          There's a VERY significant chance that the two airplanes, skis, tabs, etc. (or even sides of the same airplane) are different. Skis need to be rigged to fit the airplane. Bungees (but do yourself a favor and get Atlee springs) are rigged by tension, not length.

          You want 1.5 degrees up from level flight attitude and 9 degrees down from 3-point, if I remember correctly.

            I also have the Atlee springs on mine. I have had them for about twelve years now with out a problem. They come with paperwork and a full diagram on how to install them. they dont go by how long the cables are they go by deg up and down.

              Off the main subject, but someone said tha F.Atlee Dodge was bought by Univair? Hmmm.
              Just for GP, and old timer told me a 2x4 flat, under the ski ahead of the pedestal just before the ski bottom up curve(tail down) to make the rear check cable, then a 4x4 under the ski, aft of the pedestal (A/C level-tail up on a stand)for the front check cable, with Atlee gold springs -stretch 3 inches while in level flight attitude - but then a degree meter is more accurate!.

                Where do I buy Atlee springs?They sound like a good idea.

                  My info may be old, but the last Atlee Dodge ph.# I have is 907-344-1755, ask for Steve. The "gold" springs are the size you want, the silvers are more stout-intended for the bigger skis.

                    Stoddards in Anchorage has the springs...100 bucks apiece...worth it.
                    Make sure your mechanic type understands what is involved.

                      I bought the hole kit everything you need. from Atlee It even came with all the paperwork for the t-craft. I think all the paperwork is still in my logbook ill check it out

                          Lance, it was 6 to 7 inches on Friday afternoon (snow is about 5 inches deep). I went ahead and put in the toggles for the wing tiedowns. Will put the tail tiedown in when I get the plane back...one of my 4 boys is getting some instruction in it. He soloed last week. (Had to send another shirt over to P.A., as the scissors found the mark). Still got 2 more sons that need to learn...Good grief, I may cave in and install brakes on the right, plus a drag chute! All the discussion gets closer to home when your standing on the sidelines and watching your plane at work!! All things considered, it's great to be able to share the experience with your kids. Years from now, I hope we'll all be able to sit down with a copy of Chet Peek's book and each recall our own halting, tentative entry into the Taylorcraft Story. Dick

                            You actually want the "silver" springs which are, conveniently and not at all confusingly ( ) , now gold in color. They do come with a hand-written tag that says "silver." They are short and fat and whoever you buy them from should be able to set you up with the right thing. They come with an STC that applies to just about anything with wings.

                            12"+ ice N of FAI - with almost no snow on top of it.

                            What is this "brake" thing of which you speak??
