  • Painting the pilot side of the prop

Has anyone painted the pilot side of the prop black to stop reflected light?
There are times when landing when the reflection is almost hypnotic and I have to make a deliberate move to focus on something off to the side.
The down side is this is a wooden prop and it is beautiful, and if I spray-paint my side, I feel like I"m detracting from its grace. - Mike

Instead of painting...how about using a "satin" finish instead of a gloss. I am having a similar problem. My AP touched up my prop with a new coat of High gloss...looks great up front...but the back flashes like a strobe light, especially this time of year with the low sun angles.

Should I just take some steel wool and lightly buff it?

I fly behind a McCauley 74/43 metal prop and it is painted flat black on the back side. I put a wood prop on for a brief period and had a terrible time with the strobing of the reflection. Very distracting. I know people generally don't paint their wood props but I would seriously consider it for safety reasons. It really does make a difference.
