    Brownsville visit?

    Aren't we all curious about what is going on down at Brownsville? I was just thinking that maybe that would be a nice little trip, just for fun you know. Combine with a excursion across the border for some Tequilla and whatever LOL.
    Anyway, someone want to nominate me as official forum/foundation representative to the factory. I just whacked up my hand working on my Camaro so I need to give it a break about now. Of course it would be more practical if someone from down that way (ie Texas) were to do it, but I probably have more time and and maybe more curiosity than most.

    Where are you located Darrel,maybe I'll go with ya.....I could you a case or two myself.......medical reasons of course.

      Pretty much in the middle of California, Kevin. Wow, I just checked on the map and Brownsville is all the way down at the tip of texas. Right on the coast, I'll bet the humidity there must stay around 85%+. In a warehouse without air conditioning you can kiss any bare steel parts goodbye. Anyone ever been there?

        Been there! Your wrong about the humidity being 85%. The humidity is 100% except when it's raining and then it is 110%!!!!!!

          Hello: I have had two telephone talks with the owner about wing parts...he tells me he is open for business but cannot supply part numbers or prices. When he was in La Grange TX there was very little activity around his business location. I live in San Antonio, TX and sent an e-mail to the factory today threatening a personal visit. I suspect that there is something wrong down in Brownsville, TX. Doc

            Well Doc, at least you were able to contact someone, which is better luck than most of us are having. I'm sure no one would be surprised if there was some serious problems down there considering the owners treatment of customers. I wouldn't even care to hazzard a wild guess, as the possibilities are endless.
            Probably going down would be a waste of time. I think I might see if the Chamber of Commerce there (if they have one,) or perhaps some city office could give me any info. I'll dig a little.

              I went to Reklaw, Texas this weekend in my BC-12D. An L-2 owner named Ron Paduh came over and introduced himself. He said he was from Texas and that he knows Harry Ingraham. He told me that Taylorcraft was going to stay in Lagrange building F series and LSAs. And that the Brownsville facility was for building L-2's (but they hadn't gotten started yet).

              I mentioned that this didn't jive so good with the info that I had absorbed from this website. He shrugged.

              I saw two BC-12s there. N43107 flew in Saturday between 9:00 ad 9:30am. N96473 was there when I got there Friday. It's owned by a man named Jesse who lives in Cypress Texas, I think. He's had it for about a year.

              There were two L-2s there also.

                Two Tcraft factories in Texas? That guy must have been hitting the beer keg pretty hard to swallow that story.

                  I'm poking around by email to the city people and anyone I can get information from in Brownsville. Will try some phone calls also. Hope I can find out what is happening.

                    I heard from a friend of mine who owns a DC-3 that he spoke to the Taylorcraft factory in Brownsville, and that Harry said that Building L was going to be used to start making DC-3's.... but that they weren't ready yet.

                    That does not jive with info from the other guy I know who has an SR-71, who said Harry was taking orders for SR-71 parts.... next week.

                          Hi guys,
                          At the end of last January, I spent two days in Brownsville, TX on my way to Panama, C. A. via a motorcycle. People of Brownsville, I am sorry to say this but, Brownsville is a sh!# town, it is a major drug port for cocaine traffic and is more like the pits of Mexico then the US. I found the people there to be very nice and easy to work with, but due to it being a border town to Matamoras, you see the worse side people struggling to make a buck. About twenty miles south of there I was stopped by the Mexico army checkpoint at M-60 gunpoint just to make sure all my papers were good and that I was not carrying drugs. Just days before there was a prison riot because of gangs fighting over drug territory, and 30 people were killed.
                          Brownsville has a lot of cheap labor and would love to be in the “Aero Space” biz. Harry would love to take city money as a bale out as apposed to doing an honest days work. Just some thoughts.

                            Hey Guys,
                            I winter about 40 miles north of Brownsville at Raymondville, TX on US 77.
                            I am still in Indiana, but will be going down for the winter around Thanksgiving time. I own an airport (grass) XS56 2 miles south of Raymondville at the IX of US77 Business and FM490. All are welcome to fly in. I have a new hangar and am an A&P, IA and owned my first BC12D from 1964 to 1968 and now have a damaged BC12D that I will rebuild. Looking for left wing, LG(both), right struts, and a few other parts. I have a flying Stinson 108 in TX and a Mooney M20C in Indiana (KHUF)
                            Soon after getting settled for the winter, I plan to pay Harry a visit in Brownsville and will report to this group.
                            I visited him over a year ago in LaGrange. He gave me a quick tour and it looked like he was going to make something happen. The Brownsville move was a suprise to me and e-mails I have sent have been un-answered.
                            Give me a month or two and I'll give you a full report.
