  • cover plate, or not?

When using a metal prop on a tapered flange crank with prop hub, should you use the metal front cover plate that is ALWAYS used with a wood prop? or just washers under the prop bolt nuts and no plate. I was told that using the cover plate would cause corrosion on the prop.

Jason- the plate you are speaking of is called a crush plate- it is used to distribute the compression load evenly on the wood props. It is not needed on the metal props- the bolt and washer works fine.

      Jason,
Eric and your other source are both correct. The crush plate against the aluminum prop will hold moisture and cause corrosion between the two surfaces.
