I have only one response to my request for information leading to finding some parts for a BC12D, like a left wing, landing gear, struts etc.
Some of you guys have to have some parts you don't need or know where there are some.
    Thanks.

    Re: T-Craft parts

Before this Forum I needed both landing gears. I ended up running an ad in trade a plane and was able to purchase them at a very reasonable price. I doubt that the people who responed to my ad would have been on the forum. But, I guess they read trade a plane regularly. If memory serves me correctly I believe I had an opportunity to but 2 complete sets and another set by buying L and R from two different individuals. This was 5+ years ago so I don't have any info now. Sorry

          Thanks, Tom.
You are not far away. May give you a call some day. Am I remembering correctly that on a post you made some time ago you said you had some drawings? I am always interested in purchasing copies of drawings especially any that are related to the things I want to fix or improve upon.

I tried to speak with Forrest at Oshkosh, but maybe he had to be somewhere as he did not seem to want to talk with me.

              Re: T-Craft parts

I believe landing gears will be pretty hard to find. Unless you are trying for an antique showplane restoration, you might have an easier time adapting another type of landing gear to this design. A one-time field approval is not an easy thing anymore, but finding a good set of T-craft gear is pretty hard. It seems possible to use a bent flat aluminum gear (Grove Aircraft, El Cajon, California) and fabricate special brackets to mount it to the T-craft WITHOUT altering the structure. You'd be able to fly with the aluminum gear, and wait for a good set of original gear to come along. You can also have landing gears fabricated under the "owner produced parts" deal, as mentinoed.

Personally, as long as I wasn't changing the welded structure (or doing anything that could not be un-done later), if I were you I would be interested to see the benefits of the aluminum gear. Less drag, zero maintenance, ability to bolt on hydraulic brakes.......

Yes, Forrest is very busy and hard to reach. If you ever are able to pin him down, he is very anxious to help members. Currently, I too am trying to pin him down .

                  Re: T-Craft parts

I believe I have a set of landing gear. I recently bought a huge lot of Taylorcraft stuff.....2 fuselages, 2 semi-complete projects, wing ribs, tail feathers, ailerons, steps and lots more TCraft stuff. I plan on taking on one of the projects and selling the rest, but it will take me a little while to sort though everything. As I do, I'll post what I have on a web page, which I am currently building.
So, I now own all or part of 5 BC12Ds!! A guy really only needs two....especailly considering I'm also partners with my brother in a Stinson (with the 0-470 conversion).
I know Forrest has or knows where to find lots of stuff, but my contact with him has always been a little one-sided. I'm sure he's very busy with his own stuff.

                    Re: T-Craft parts

Thanks for the reply. Looke like you may be the best hope at this time. I am a long way from flying the T-Craft so there is no real hurry as long as I can find a decent set of LG. Also, need left wing and right wing struts.
I also have a Stinson 108 that I have had for 38 years and a spare plane for parts. I will be converting mine to the Lyc O-360 this winter. So if you need any Stinson parts, I may be able to help you, too.

                      Re: T-Craft parts

We actually have TWO Stinsons! One complete and one about 80 percent done....so we only have about 80% left to finish that project up! The 0-470 makes the 108-3 into a 4 place Super Cub, lots of fun. I've heard good things about the Lyc in them too. The 0-470 is usually called the PDX conversion and we live just outside PDX, so.........
I have several wings in varying states. I also have a few struts, but I haven't had a chance to inventory everything yet. Like I posted before, I'll list it all on my website soon.
I'm looking for an exhaust for my complete and running TCraft, but have found nobody to trade with on that. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and fork out the cash.

If you have to buy one, get the stainless one and do it as an owner produced deal. Taylorcraft exhausts are a pain in the ass and are subject to a repetitiveinspection. A stainless one should help that situation in the field, if not in the paperwork.

A 337 approval for a later F-19 style exhaust would be a good idea if you're game. I SUSPECT it would make more power and you'd have less difficulty maintaining it. The original style makes it a real pain to work around or get it off and on. A REAL pain.

                          Re: T-Craft parts

I found some parts for N44057 at Dart Airport in Mayville, NY. They regularly rebuild tube n rag airplanes including Taylorcrafts (they were finishing up an Aeronca C-3 when my wife and I were there in late July).

This is a great destination! Fastinating museum there. Guy to talk to is Bob Dart and he is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

I purchased my Tcraft from Dart Field. Bob and his daughter were quite nice and I sure enjoyed poking around the hangar/museum while waiting for the weather to clear before starting my journey west. I think I counted 4 Tcrafts based there and lots of cubs also.

Don't know where I had to go at OSH , but I had posted hours and was there for the members of the Taylorcraft FOUNDATION for around 28 hrs that week, that is more than I work here . . I seemed I was always going somewhere, LSA conference, Small Aircraft Directorate, Young Eagles, Swift folks , IAC , Wag-Aero meetings, all for the good of Taylorcraft....

WE have lots of parts here in Alliance and they come and go. I DO NOT have any landing gears for a BC12D OR a left wing at the moment. Larry Wheellock is noted as needing them. I remind all out there that the Foundation members get the first choice... when working on a project please try to look well into the future for parts you may need.
A few years back I brought all the Taylorcraft stuff from Bob Dart here to Alliance & since then he has acquired quite a bit again.
Larry , did you advertise in the last Taylorcraft Owner Club newsletter??
