  • L2 Restoration Update

I thought that I would give an update on my L2 project. This is SN 4063, one of the first 24 sold to the military. I did most of the work on the fuselage in the 1990's and then got busy and put it aside for 25 years and picked it back up early this years. The greatest challenge was the wings which are still the all metal original structure. They had lots of corrosion and I wasn't sure I could save them. I took every piece apart: stripped the paint, bead blasted, etched, alodined, repaired, and primed with epoxy primer. I finished the first wing in August. I finished assembling the second this week.

I am currently working on the fuel tanks. I have a minor leak on one of them at the top seam. I am trying to find the heavy felt (1/8 inch and 1/2 inch thick) that I need to mount the tanks.

The next step will be making new ailerons. Then, I will assemble everything to work on rigging and systems. Then disassemble and cover.

    Jerry
