  • Can You Float a BC12-D Converted to a F19 on EDO 1400's?

I would like to float a BC12-D that was converted via STC to a Model 19, Then later upgraded to a to a F19 with a Field Approval. I would like to put it on Edo 1400's. Because of the conversion it is no longer a BC12-D and would need a field approval for the installation of Edo 1400's since the F-19 wasn't certified for floats from the factory and their isn't an STC for Edo 1400's on a F19, does anyone have a field approval for 1400's on an F-19?

I would think that since your plane was originally a BC12D it still falls under the type certificate for EDO 1400's...Upgrading to a Model 19 or F19 only makes it a better candidate for floats I would think. I've never heard of a BC12D being upgraded to a F19....I thought the Harer/Gilberti conversion only went to Model 19 standards. What else had to be done to make it an F19? I have seen many Model 19's and F-19's on EDO 1400's so I don't think it's a big deal.

Your plane is still a BC12-D but with a supplement to the TC (STC) When you put it on floats your AP/IA will have to determine if the installation has a negative impact on any other modifications etc. AS long as the floats are on A-696 then you are ok with a log book entry- if you install floats other than those listed then a field approval will be in order. Be careful not to install floats with less capacity than your max weight. This should be an easy field approval as long as you get the right inspector at your FSDO. When you call ask for the guy that handles most of the antique aircraft issues.
