Re: Harer stc??
What is the Harer STC for Taylorcraft?
This STC can be used to properly convert a T-craft into a BC12D85, a BC12D-4-85 or a configuration “equivalent” Model 19 (Type Certificate 1A9). The STC is approved by Harer for individual airplanes only. The STC states the Model number, Serial number and the year built. After rebuilding, the STC must stay with the airplane and airplane documentation. This allows an increase in gross weight to 1500lbs. It also allows the addition of an electrical system with starter, generator, battery, and if desired a Transponder and Mode C. This STC allows for a larger baggage compartment, rear windows, and an additional fuel vent system that ties the two wing tanks and the main tank together with the vent being placed in the wing fairing. Re: Harer stc??
After my personal recent experiences with this STC, I have to recommend you use one of the existing 337 "field approvals" as a basis for your own version, instead of the Harer upgrade.
This allws you do pick and choose the particular modifications you wish to use, and not have to deal with all the other BS.
In my personal opinion, if all you want is a basic 85 horsepower Taylorcraft, then you can do a field approval based on the three real necessary modifications. Again, in my opinion, those are:
The 11/16" micarta bushings
The 3/8 fuel line from the main tank to the engine
Welding the metal patch across the strut fittings
It is my understanding that several of these 337's have been done that way.
If you really want a factory-equivalent "Model 19", then you will have to wrestle through the Harer STC. This is far more time consuming, and adds several details that more than one experienced people disagree with.

Re: Harer stc??
thanks for the ph number,, The reason for the upgrade is I'd like to upgross a bc-12 for 1500 lbs and an 0-235 instead of the usual c-85. I'm thinking along the lines of strengthening the wing fittings and landing gear, according to the harer stc which could be a basis for an upgross,, and then installing the f-21 engine mount and exhaust which should make a decent float plane
for the higher elevations here
