Re: Would someone please point me to the FAR on propping?
This thread carries a lot of caution about dealing with the FAA; e.g. get a lawyer, don't talk, etc. In my career of numerous check rides, ramp checks for me (when I was working for a traveling warbird operation) and my airplane (hangared near a recent crack-up they came to investigate), oversight of our part 47 A+P school by a principal inspector and on and on, I have never found the FAA safety inspectors to be anything but courteous, friendly, and professional. Recently our airport had a visit, and the inspector pointed out those airplanes with obvious legal issues (e.g. no external data plate) but took no notes and planned no violations--just advised on the law. One of our pilots nicked an ADIZ on the way to Florida and had a useful and friendly talk on the phone--that was all. They are not out to get 'ya. Mike's experience bears this out. I believe the FAA has figured out that cooperation with the GA community will get be a better accident prevention than a hard-line approach.
