The plane landed on the Glenn Hiway, near Merrill Field, in Anchorage. The instructor was a member of the Ruess family, which is well-known for the floatplane training they give on Lake Hood, using Taylorcrafts. Very nice piece of flying...landing in that location and with that traffic. Don't know why it quit...I would guess Carb. icing. Dick
Rick, the instructor who landed the plane, is a commercial pilot as well as an instructor. I haven't flown with him, but have a few hours with his mom and dad who also teach in T-Craft. They're all excellent instructors.
Quite a feat, considering it was 8:30 a.m. and pitch black out, and there are powerlines and even a pedestrian overpass near that part of the road. Luckily most of the traffic is coming the other way at that time of the morning. Steve Long - Anchorage
