  • Return Trip a Drag

Ok, so why is it that the return trip always has a headwind? The return trip seems to take twice as long as it actually does (7 hour flight feels like 14 hours). Why is it more turbulent? (cant read the sectional because you are constantly trying NOT to fly knife edge?)

It is a bittersweet flight, you are in the air and that puts a smile on your face but you know the adventure is almost over. In a way you can't wait to land so you can just stretch out on the couch and pass out.......

Ok, let's pretend you are in a 100 Kts. super Taylorcraft, overflying two places 100 miles apart with a 50 Kts tailwind. So that means a 150 Kts. groundspeed, and a 40 minutes flight. On the way back, ground speed will be 50 Kts. and a two hrs. flight. Total flying time is 2 hours plus 40 minutes flight.
No wind flying time is two hours flat.
    Wind is always a headwind.
