When overhauling a A-65 are you required to send the case, crankshaft, cam, etc off somewhere to have it certified or can an A&P with all the proper equipment check for cracks and clearance limits?

Re: A&P Question?
Innless you are setting up to do multiple engines; it is usually cheaper to just sent the parts to a repair station. To do things such as a magnetic partial inspection take some special training.Andrew Rozell

Re: A&P Question?
You need to send out all major components for overhaul or you won't in fact have a major overhaul. All you will be doing is carrying forward the wear and assorted issues of the engine. No A&P or shop I know of has the kind of equipment needed to check for serviceable limits, though I'm sure there must be someone somewhere. Unfortunately, it's expensive, but these are corners you cannot afford to cut.
