  • Differnces in Max Gross

Specs for the BC12-D show the land plane with a max gross weight of 1200# and the sea plane with a max gross weight of 1278# The land plane has a vne of 140 mph and the sea plane has a vne of 129 mph. Both the sea plane and the land plane have the Continental A65 engine. My question is why the differences in max gross between the land and sea plane, and what were the criteria for certification to arrive at these differences in max gross. Just curious.

    Re: Differnces in Max Gross

HMM up the cross weigth to 1278 is suposed to be possible in Canada.
Is the lower VNE the secret? Plackard to 129 Mph? Does any one know more?
I will check it out with DOT. At the present a homebuilt version with a A 65 being registred to 1278 lbs here in Canada

      Re: Differnces in Max Gross

The diffrences in gross weight could be because floats are stronger then landing gear. Limitations are not always set due to preformance. Perhaps the speed diffrences are also due to drag diffrences between floats and wheels.
