Tachometer cable tip

My tachometer cable broke at the engine end, just behind the crimped on tip.
I found a speedometer cable kit (they are getting rare).
The crimp-on tips are different.
Anyone know if the speedometer crimp-on tip will engage the engine like the old one did? - Mike
