Wing Gap Seals

How do you get the wing gap seals to fit up snugly to the bottom of the wing over the doors? Is it just the tension from the screw in the back? Mine seem to snag a little on the top of the doors when the doors are opened or closed.

I'd appreciate anybody's help!

Bob, don't know how others do it but, I tighten the screw then I had to put in a couple of small sheet metal screws. The only way I was able to.

Thanks Lee and Robbie - So do you put the screws through the gap seal into the butt rib of the wing? That seems to be the only place to put them under the wing. Do you put the screws anywhere else along the seal? Bob

I would not recommend drilling into the butt rib if it is a pre-war airplane. The ribs are truss ribs and drilling thru the center would weaken it. On post war stamped ribs, it's probably fine.

That being said, I think that the long screw in the back is what was SUPPOSED to hold it all together 60 years later, I will bet that 90% of the owners will tell you that the wing fairing is the single biggest pain in the ass on the whole plane.

One thing you could do is to safety wire the bottom of the fairing up to the top of the fairing, to keep it from sagging and hitting the door.
